The meeting came to order at 10:00am by Paula Wilkins with Mel Fisher, Barb Rooney, and Laurie Champagne in attendance.
Minutes for July 24, 2017 were adopted with proposed changes and editing. There was an update on the CFEP grant that will be sent in for the Jan, 15, 2018 deadline. New business: Susan Younggren will be the FOLF member to attend SVPB council meetings in the future. The purpose is to keep the communication open and fluid between the two groups. A list was drafted of items she will present on the agenda of the next SVPB council meeting. The committee wishes to put up wildflower stakes to identify the wildflowers that grow along the beachfront in the spring. There was a discussion to split the roles of treasurer and secretary on the FOLF committee. The issue was tabled to next meeting. A discussion was had whether it is the responsibility of the FOLF committee to plan and organize community events. It was conlcluded that Westlake Society would be a better sponsor for these types of activities. The goal of FOLF is to advise council of the beachfront and not to organize events for various communities. A special council will be set up under the supervision of the Westlake Society to plan such activities. There will be communication sent out on the behalf of Westlake to make this announcement and to gain interested members. Treasurer's report was unavailable but tax deductible receipts will be issued for those that gave donations to FOLF at the pancake breakfast in August. Next regular meeting will be January 6, 2018 at 10am @ the SVPB office.
There was a meeting Monday, July 24, 2017 on the beach beside the playground. Four regular committee members were in attendance. The Mayor of the SVPB was meeting with a local representative who was hired to spread piles of new sand on the beachfront at the time the FOLF meeting was to be held, so we delayed the start of our meeting so that we may listen to the plans for the sand.
The wind was rather strong, so the FOLF meeting was transported to the Village Office at approximately 10:30 am. The group discussed the village projects planned and the election of new SVPB council members. A member made a motion for 4 specifically set meeting dates throughout the year that will act as 'general meetings' for the committee and allow for specific goals to be met at each meeting. Meeting dates were set. We then reviewed survey results of possible future projects and discussed those that stood out as top priority. We narrowed the choices down to three items. Paula will write a grant for matching current funds that will cover the costs of the these three projects. FOLF members will attend and assist with the Village's annual pancake breakfast and set up a table were we can promote awareness of the committee, hand out promotional sunglasses, and solicit volunteers and donations for future projects. The next meeting we will approve the minutes which will then be posted. Next meeting will be the first of our regularly scheduled general meetings which will be the first Saturday in October (October 7) at the SVPB office as long as it does not conflict with a council meeting. We may have a special meeting before Sept. 15, 2017 to review the grant materials Paula will be submitting .
July 24, 2017 @ 10am on the beach beside the new playground! There was a meeting June 24, 2017 at the beachfront. 5 regular attending members of the committee were in attendance. Attached is the agenda. We discussed and adopted the minutes from the June 3 meeting. Paula announced the recent work she had begun on applying for a CFEP grant to fund new projects. Two members presented a map of the beachfront area with outlined areas to which they would like to propose that wildflowers grow until approximately mid July. A letter will be sent to SVPB council to make these suggestions. The group discussed possible projects that we would like to see undertaken by the committee. A list was brainstormed and a survey will be sent out to all interested parties to prioritize their importance. If you are interested in filling out the survey digitally or via paper, please contact the web site administrator. It may become posted publicly at a later date. The group made a motion to purchase items to promote the committee and give away at the annual SVBP pancake breakfast this August. A semi-permanent sign will also be put up at the RR 3 mailboxes to communicate information about FOLF and its next meeting dates.
